Historic wall art for homes with soul

When Jules Chéret created the poster for Jardin de Paris in 1890, Charles Zidler was the director of the entertainment venue. Only the year before, Zidler had opened the Moulin Rouge together with Joseph Oller. For a brief period, he thus stood behind two of Paris’s most talked-about entertainment addresses at the same time. The poster belongs to that world of evening performances, boulevard audiences, and intense visual competition, where Chéret’s vibrant prints became one of the city’s most important visual languages. That makes the image more than an advertisement for a single evening. It sits at the heart of a network of entrepreneurs, stages, and poster art that shaped our image of Belle Époque Paris.
