Poster featuring Willow Bough, one of William Morris’s most beloved wallpaper patterns, first produced in 1887. The densely interwoven willow leaves and softly undulating stems create the rhythm and sense of nature that have made Morris’s patterns so decorative and enduringly attractive long after the Victorian era.
William Morris (1834–1896) was a leading figure in the Arts and Crafts movement and sought to bring beauty, craftsmanship, and nature into everyday surroundings. Willow Bough is more naturalistic than his earlier Willow pattern and is based on close studies of plant forms. Although the design dates from the 19th century, it still works beautifully in both classic and modern interiors, where the organic pattern brings the wall to life without feeling figurative.
