The story behind the motif
Poster with a beautiful painting of Ulriksdal Castle painted by King Karl XV of Sweden (1826–1872).
Karl XV was king of Sweden and Norway between 1859 and 1872. He married Princess Lovisa of the Netherlands. Karl XV loved to paint and devoted a large part of his life to painting in the romantic style of the time and played a major role for art in Sweden through the strong support he gave to many artists.
Ulriksdals Castle is located in Solna, Stockholm and began to be built in the late Renaissance style in 1638. The castle quickly became a popular destination for nobility and royalty. Queen Kristina loved Ulriksdal Castle so much that she had her coronation procession in 1650 start from here.
The painting View of Ulriksdal was a gift from Baroness Adelswärd to the National Museum in Stockholm in 1885.
