Colette in the Fashion Almanac
Barbier drew this plate in 1922 for the 1923 Falbalas et fanfreluches—a lavish fashion almanac in which Colette wrote the year’s text. The colour was printed with pochoir, a method using stencils and hand-colouring that placed the work between fashion magazine and fine-art print.

The story behind the motif

Poster with an illustration from a French fashion magazine in 1923. On the illustration you see the text Voici mes ailes! - French for Here are my wings! A model shows off the latest fashion for her friend. In the background we see a beautiful summer day by the Mediterranean Sea.

The illustrator of this iconic fashion image was called George Barbier. He was a very prominent artist from France celebrated not least by Vouge for his contribution to the world of fashion during the early 20th century.
