Not quite Syrah
The name on the chart is a historical simplification. The grape known in California as Petite Syrah is actually called Durif, after the French nurseryman who propagated it in the 1880s. DNA research later showed that Durif is a cross between Syrah and Péloursin – related to Syrah, but not the same grape.
