A beautiful drawing with the heraldic coat of arms for the province of Västmanland from the 19th century.
Västmanland's regional coat of arms was present at Gustav Vasa's funeral in 1560 and then consisted of a burning mountain, which depicted the Sala silver mine. Quite soon, however, the weapon was transformed into three burning mountain peaks which have been interpreted in different ways, including as the three mines Sala, Norberg and Skinnskatteberg. The coat of arms is also included together with the regional coat of arms of Närke and Värmland in the coat of arms of Örebro County.
Västmanland, located in the heart of Sweden, has a history marked by both agriculture and industry. The area has been inhabited since the Stone Age, but it was during the Middle Ages that Västmanland began to develop strongly through the establishment of ironworks and mining, especially known for the Sala silver mine. The mining industry became a driving force in the region's economy and culture, and the mines in Västmanland played an important role in Sweden's economic history. During the 20th century, the region underwent an industrial transformation, where above all cities such as Västerås became centers for energy and technological innovation. Today, Västmanland is a dynamic county with a mixture of old industrial tradition and modern technological development.
The text above the coat of arms reads: Vestmanland's coat of arms. At the bottom left it says: "Sweden's National and Country Arms. Established by the Royal Majesty. After drawings by Prof. M. AD. Hildebrandt in Berlin. Published by Carl Arvid Klingspor."
