The story behind the motif
Poster with a picture of a steam locomotive being loaded onto an English steamer named Neebing. The locomotive was manufactured by Nydqvist & Holm AB, a company that at the end of the 19th century manufactured steam locomotives, among other things. The company expanded almost continuously up to and including the First World War.
The 1000th locomotive was produced in 1912 and in 1920 Nohab received a large order for a total of 1000 locomotives ordered by the Russian SFSR, the "Russian Locomotive", which however two years later had been reduced to 500 for political reasons. The order, which had a value of SEK 230 million, was the largest to date in Sweden.
The payment was made in 56 tons of pure gold. Here at Nydqvist & Holm's newly built quay in Trollhättan, at the end of July 1922, eleven locomotives destined for Russia are loaded.
