The story behind the motif
Poster with a painting from the 1840s with a view of the castle, Skeppsbron and Skeppsholmen. The artist Johan Henric Strömer has stood and painted the painting on the Fersenska Terrace, which is located between Kungsträdgården and the Grand Hotel.
Stockholm had less than 90,000 inhabitants at this time. Industrialization about 20 years later became one of Stockholm's most expansive periods ever, something that changed the urban landscape drastically. The knowledge of the impending industrial revolution makes the picture, if possible, even more beautiful: an untouched Stockholm that soon came to change.
