Before the Armory Show
When Arthur B. Davies made this drawing, in 1882–93, he was still far from becoming a gateway to modernism in the United States. He later became one of the chief organisers behind the 1913 Armory Show in New York—the exhibition that brought together around 1,250 works and confronted the American public with European avant-garde art.

The story behind the motif

Poster with a vintage nude sketch by Arthur Bowen Davies. The motif is called Standing Female Nude and shows a naked woman posing sensually. The original is at the Art Institute of Chicago. 

Davies was an avant-garde American artist and influential proponent of modern art in the United States in the early 20th century.
