An Assignment Along the Coast
Photographer Dan Samuelsson took the image during an unusually intense year: in 1924, the Swedish Tourist Association commissioned him to travel through Bohuslän and document places of interest. The assignment also brought him back to the region where he had grown up – before he left the west coast in the autumn for a life in Nyköping.

The story behind the motif

Posters with motifs from Smog 1924. Several mackerel boats lie at Smögen's harbor waiting for a fish auction.

In 1924, Smögen, like many other communities along the coast of Bohuslän, was a place where fishing was one of the dominant industries and a central part of local social life. The place is known for its beautiful sailboats that adorn the harbor and coastline. Sailing is a popular activity in the area, and many visitors and locals enjoy sailing in the beautiful archipelago landscape around Smögen.
