The Olympic sweater came from home
The photograph was taken around 1960, but the sweater has an older Olympic history. The Cortina pattern was designed in 1956 by Steins’s mother, Bitten Eriksen, as Norway’s first official Olympic sweater, ahead of the Winter Games in Cortina d’Ampezzo.

The story behind the motif

Poster with a photograph "Ski" from 1960. The photograph shows the Norwegian alpinist Stein Eriksen on a slalom slope. He is dressed in a traditional wool sweater and skis down the hill, with clear technique and concentration in his skiing. Both his posture and movement indicate great skill in the sport.
