Boken handlar om den lilla prinsessan Sessalätt som ger sig ut på en resa fylld av prövningar och möten med olika människor och miljöer. Berättelsen handlar om mod, vänskap och att växa genom erfarenheter.
Bilden visar en scen i skogen där prinsessan kikar fram bakom ett träd. I fokus jagar en liten tax en vit hare över marken, och bakom granens grenar skymtar en björn som tittar fram mellan stammarna.
Elsa Beskow var en svensk författare och illustratör (1874–1953), känd för sina älskade barnböcker och detaljrika illustrationer. Hon skapade sagor där naturen och vardagen blandas med fantasi, som exempelvis Sessalätts äventyr. Beskow räknas som en av Nordens mest betydelsefulla barnboksillustratörer.
