Plate 96, Summer 1913
When the plate was published on 10 July 1913, it was number 96 in the Costumes Parisiens series and one of two colour plates in issue 41 of Journal des Dames et des Modes. George Barbier created the design, while the actual print was produced anonymously as an engraving with stencil and hand colouring.

The story behind the motif

Poster with an old illustration of a Parisian gentleman in elegant, casual attire in his home. Below the image we see the text Robe de Chambre , French for dressing gown.

The illustration was published in the French fashion magazine Journal des Dames et des Modes in 1913. The illustrator's name was George Barbier and he was a very prominent artist from France, celebrated not least by Vouge for his contribution to the world of fashion in the early 20th century.
