When the Street Had Water
Östra Hamngatan bore its name literally for a long time: until 1936, the Eastern Harbour Canal ran along the street. When the canal was filled in, not only did a waterway disappear, but also the context for which several of the older buildings’ entrances and façades had been created.

The story behind the motif

A unique picture of what Östra Hamngatan in Gothenburg looked like at the end of the 19th century before the canals were built again. The picture was taken from Gustav Adolfs torg and in the background on the left is NK today since 1971.
