The story behind the motif
Poster with the beautiful painting Nordic Summer Evening, created by the Swedish artist Richard Bergh, created in 1899.
In the motif, we see a man and a woman looking thoughtfully out over a bay and a quiet evening landscape. The artist Karin Pyk was the model for the woman in the picture and Prince Eugen for the man.
Richard Bergh (1858–1919) was a prominent Swedish artist, a central figure in Swedish national romantic art and a driving force behind the founding of Artists' Union, which supported young artists in Sweden. He was part of the so-called Opponent movement, a group of artists who sought a new style inspired by realism and symbolism. Nordic Summer Evening is one of his most famous works.
Artist: Richard Bergh Andersen Call | Created: 1899.
