The Battle of Lützen 1632 and the Battle of Narva 1700 lie nearly seventy years apart, yet both have become central images of Sweden’s Great Power era. At Lützen, the Swedish army was victorious, but Gustavus Adolphus was killed in battle. At Narva, Charles XII won one of his most celebrated early victories.
