Victory by 21 Minutes
1950 was one of Mora-Nisse’s most remarkable years. He won the Vasaloppet by 21 minutes and 17 seconds, took bronze in the 50-kilometre event at the World Championships in Rumford, and also completed an SM treble in Örnsköldsvik. This dominance came in the midst of his run of seven consecutive Vasaloppet victories.

The story behind the motif

Poster with a photograph of the skiing legend Mora-Nisse Karlsson (1917-2012). The picture was taken during the Vasaloppet in 1951, where Mora-Nisse is first in the track and Anders Törnkvist behind.

Mora-Nisse, or Nils Karlsson as he was actually called, had an impressive career as a cross-country skier. In addition to the Olympic gold in 1948, he took the WC bronze in 1950 and 37 SM golds.

Mora-Nisse started the Vasaloppet on 10 occasions and won 9 of them, which still stands as a record to this day.
