When Paris Counted Year IX
The source was part of François Levaillant’s work on parrots, published in Paris between years IX and XIII – the French Revolutionary calendar’s way of writing 1801–1805. The calendar, which replaced both the months and the numbering of years after the Revolution, was still official when the plate was printed.

The story behind the motif

Poster with a vintage illustration of a green parrot . The illustration comes from Natural History of Parrots (1801-1805) and is drawn by the French writer and ornithologist Francois Levaillant. In the picture we see, among other things, the text La Perruche Sinçialo - French for the name of the species.
