Canvas board with the painting Kraka created by Mårten Eskil Winge from 1862.

Kraka, also known as Aslög, is a central figure in Norse mythology and is portrayed as an incredible beauty with red hair. In the painting, we see her wearing only a fishnet, with an onion in front of her and a dog beside her, with Ragnar Lodbrok's ship visible in the background. In the legend, Ragnar asks her to meet him neither clothed nor naked, neither hungry nor full, and neither alone nor in company. When Kraka appears wearing a fishing net, with an onion in her mouth and in the company of a dog, Ragnar is so impressed by her cunning that he marries her.

The painting was bought by King Karl XV and acquired by the National Museum upon the king's death in 1872. Mårten Eskil Winge is mainly known for his Old Norse motifs, but he also executed paintings with Christian motifs, especially altarpieces.
