A Life-Size Portrait
Brilliant was part of Charles XI’s lavish horse gallery. The king commissioned at least seven life-size horse portraits from court painter Ehrenstrahl, and several still hang at Strömsholm Palace – the place where Charles XI oversaw breeding, hunted and inspected troop manoeuvres.

The story behind the motif

 

Canvas board with a beautiful painting from 1680. The painting is created by the Swedish nobleman and artist David Klöcker Ehrenstrahl. The work is a portrait of Charles XI's life horse Brilliant. 

Klöcker Ehrenstrahl has received the honorary name The father of Swedish painting and is known for the statement: “Art presents riddles that could not be solved by everyone".

We deliver worldwide and always offer free shipping! Depending on the country you are shipping to, delivery may involve certain customs duties and taxes – no customs duties or taxes apply to deliveries within the EU or Norway.

Delivery time is normally around 5–7 business days within the Nordic countries, as we handcraft our canvas artworks in our factory in Sweden, and the canvas fabric also needs to dry before we stretch it over a wooden frame and ship it to you.

If you order from Norway, your order will be delivered with Fedex; to Sweden and the rest of the world with DHL. Your package is normally delivered to your nearest pickup point!
