In 1937, Sweden introduced construction regulations for fishing vessels after increasingly powerful engines began placing greater demands on hulls. For the coastal communities on Tjörn, the change was far from theoretical: as early as 1910, 243 cutters from Orust and Tjörn belonged to Sweden's North Sea fishery.
