The story behind the motif

Poster with a beautiful leaf from an Indian Canna (Canna Atro Nigricans), known for its large reddish leaves. The work was published in the book "Beautiful Leaved Plants" by Shirley Hibberd in 1870.

Hibberd was a noted British horticulturist and author, and the book focuses on plants with particularly decorative leaves and their use in gardens and greenhouses. This type of botanical art was popular during the Victorian era, when interest in gardening and plants was high in Britain and Europe.
