When the Crab Changed Genus
In the 1840s, plates 50–51 appeared in De Kay’s section on crustaceans in the great state publication Zoology of New York. Today, horseshoe crabs are not considered true crabs, but are more closely related to spiders and scorpions – a small taxonomic leap through time within the same image.
