From Slave Transport to Lake Vänern
The vessel behind the image already had an improbable past when the photograph was taken in 1945: built in Troense in 1799, it was later used for slave transport and voyages to Greenland. Under the name Lisa, it sailed on Lake Vänern before being broken up in 1954 – after around 155 years at sea.

The story behind the motif

It is the height of summer in 1945 and two fishermen are taking a break on the deck of a fishing boat by Sweden's and Europe's largest lake Vänern. The ship with designation F1774 was built in 1799 at a shipyard in Troense, Denmark.

Photographer: Claes Claesson | Created: 1945.
