The Street Redrawn
The photograph was taken by Alfred Dahlgren in 1901–1902, on one of Uppsala’s main streets. Vaksalagatan had already existed for more than two centuries: it was laid out when the city was reorganized in the latter half of the seventeenth century, as an exit toward Vaksala Toll and the road to Vaksala Church. Much of the adjoining development was later replaced during the twentieth century.
