The story behind the motif
Photo from 1901 at Uppsala Cathedral. Construction of the church began in the early 1270s under the direction of an anonymous French architect. The dedication of the church took place in 1435, but the church's famous tower was only erected in the latter part of the 15th century.
The church is the largest cathedral in the Nordic region and many famous people from Swedish history are buried there, including Kings Gustav Vasa and Johan III.
