The story behind the motif

Poster with a painting depicting the outer courtyard of the Royal Palace in Stockholm. The artwork is painted by the well-known artist Carl Johan Billmark, who was a prominent landscape artist in the 19th century.

The motif depicts the Royal High Guard standing in formation and on horseback in front of what could be a royal carriage. Some well-dressed civilians stand admiring the golden carriage and a boy is seen running out of the way of the horses.
