The story behind the motif
The poster shows a drawing of the newly renovated spire of the Great Church in Stockholm, which underwent extensive transformation from 1736 onwards. The original Gothic spire, which was made of wood and in poor condition, was replaced with a new and more robust construction, with a metal pennant marking the end of the renovation, which was to be completed in 1741.
The renovation and alteration of the tower was part of a larger effort to modernize and strengthen the exterior of the Great Church. It is also worth noting that the drawing may represent the original plan for the tower, and that the new design of the tower and spire may therefore differ slightly from it.
