The story behind the motif
Poster with a beautiful, old photograph from Stockholm in 1953. The picture was taken over the Klarakvartern and the rooftops with its chimneys. In the background, Stockholm's city hall towers in the sunshine.
In May 1953, Stockholm began celebrating the city's 700th anniversary - 701 years after the city's name was mentioned for the first time. The reason for the extra year was that Stockholm did not want to compete with the Summer Olympics in Helsinki, which took place the year before.
