The story behind the motif
Aerial view of Stockholm's City Hall from 1935. The picture shows parts of Södermalm, Riddarholmen and Gamla Stan. Between Riddarholmen and the City Hall you can see Strömbadet, which you can read more about here
The city hall was inaugurated in 1923 on the 400th anniversary of Gustav Vasa's entry into Stockholm. It had taken 15 years to build and was the masterpiece of renowned architect Ragnar Östberg. The building is seen by many as a symbol of Sweden and its capital and has become internationally known, not least because of the annual Nobel celebrations.
