The story behind the motif
Poster with a painting from the 1860s with panorama over Stockholm or Fogelvue over Stockholm as the picture is also called.
In the lower part of the picture we see Djurgården, on the left Södermalm, in the middle the castle above Skeppsholmen and on the right the rest of Stockholm city: Gärdet, Östermalm, Vasastan, and at the top Kungsholmen.
A fantastic snapshot of how beautiful Stockholm looked from a hot air balloon in 1868 in the middle of industrialization and Stockholm's most expansive periods ever. Industrialization and the breakthrough of steam engines transformed Sweden from an agricultural society to an industrial society, which changed the urban landscape drastically with very high population growth. Much in society changed during this time, including people's living conditions, economy, rights and politics.
