The story behind the motif

Posters with one of our favorite motifs by John Bauer: Poor little Basse! This fantastic painting is from 1912 and was published as an illustration with the fairy tale Oskuldens Vandring by Helena Nyblom in the fairy tale collection Between Tomtar and Trolls.

John Bauer is known for his fairy tale motifs with trolls and princesses and he has had a great influence on Swedish folklore and storytelling.
