The story behind the motif
Poster with a painting from 1904 depicting a beautiful and snowy winter landscape in Värmland, Sweden.
The painting is made by Gustaf Fjæstad (1868-1948) who began his artistic career as an assistant to Bruno Liljefors during the time he carried out decoration work for the Biological Museum. After the assignment as helper the time was given Fjæstad both Bruno Liljefors and Carl Larsson as his supervisors.
The first exhibition with Fjæstad's motifs were held in 1897 and in 1989 he submitted a number of paintings to the Artists' Association exhibition in Stockholm where he received a lot of attention.
Fjæstad is known as the Master of the Rimfrost and was an incredibly technically skilled artist who is represented in several of Sweden's largest museums.
