The story behind the motif

Poster with an artistic photo of a man dressed as Santa Claus. The picture is from 1941 and comes from one of Nordiska Kompaniet's Christmas campaigns.

Santa looks serious and maybe that's because the Second World War is raging in full force in the world. 1941 then broke Hitler the German-Soviet non-aggression pact and had attacked the Soviet Union in the autumn.
