A Box for Export
This label was probably made for the British export market. Swedish match factories often allowed local agents to influence the design of their labels, and the industry produced around 9,000 export labels. A box from Uddevalla could thus carry a message tailored to an audience far from Bohuslän.

The story behind the motif
Poster with antique match label from Uddevalla tändsticksfabrik. On match boxes that were produced in Sweden in the past, labels were affixed that showed which match factory and brand made the matches.

The labels were adapted to the market the matches were intended for and as matches were a major Swedish export, matches were distributed all over the world and the motifs varied greatly to suit the clientele.
