The story behind the motif
The poster shows a drawing of a temple-like gazebo on Regeringsgatan in Stockholm from 1795, designed by architect Per Estenberg. Estenberg was a prominent Swedish architect who had worked for eleven years as a student of the French architect Louis Jean Deprez, which influenced his design and style.
The gazebo that Estenberg designed is clearly inspired by ancient temples, a classical style that was popular during the late 18th century. The gazebo's function was likely to serve as a place for recreation and social gathering, which was common for this type of building during the period.
