The story behind the motif
Canvas with the weather vane, which is one of the oldest known images of Stockholm from 1535 (recreated in 1931). The painting shows how Stockholm looked during the latter part of the Middle Ages as seen from Söder's heights.
The painting hangs today in Storkyrkan, which has also been identified as the client of the work. The painting's name comes from weather suns, the optical solar phenomenon it depicts. For those interested, we strongly recommend searching for the Vädersolstavlan online as there is a long and interesting history behind it!
