The story behind the motif
Poster with an old advertisement for the 1912 Olympic Games, held in Stockholm, Sweden. The poster is a classic example of Art Nouveau design and was created by the Swedish artist Axel Börstell.
In the picture we see several athletic men holding different country flags and at the front, closest to the viewer is the Swedish flag.
The text on the poster clearly advertises the dates of the games: 29 June – 22 July 1912, and is a fantastic representation of what advertising for major international sporting events looked like at this time. The poster was designed to capture attention and generate enthusiasm for the biggest sporting event Sweden had ever hosted at the time.
Frame not included.
