The story behind the motif
Poster with the dramatic oil painting In camp wall by Jacob Hägg from 1890.
In the picture we see a Swedish liner that has been driven towards the coast during a storm. The Swedish flag flies in the stern.
Jacob Hägg was a Swedish naval officer and famous marine painter. The hull he has painted in the painting corresponds in detail with an existing model in the Maritime History Museum, most similar to a drawing drawn up by Chapman in 1792 for a 74-gun ship.
On 1 July 1942, the painting was donated to the Maritime History Museum by Countess Ebba von Eckermann, née Hallwyl. Her husband was the chamberlain captain of the navy Wilhelm von Eckermann.
Artist: Jacob Hägg | Created: 1890.
Frame not included.
