The story behind the motif
Södermalm in 1896. In the photograph we see Högbergsgatan from Timmermansgatan to the east. Men, women and children are out and about in town wearing clothes typical of the time. On the right we see a crew. During industrialization at the end of the 19th century, Södermalm grew rapidly and became primarily the residential area of the working class.
