The story behind the motif

Poster with a poster created by the Swedish artist Axel Erdmann (1814-1869). The poster concerns the Craft and Industry Exhibition in Västerås in 1908.

In the picture we see Västerås cathedral. The church was originally built in the 13th century and consecrated on August 16, 1271, but then countless expansions followed until 1517. The spire and outer roof got their current appearance during reconstruction after a fire in the 1690s.
