The story behind the motif
Poster with an illustrated proposal for the design of Frihamnen in Gothenburg by Charles August Teodor Lindholm from 1894.
Frihamnen, is Gothenburg's innermost port and is located on Hisingen at the northern end of the Götaälv Bridge. Frihamnen was inaugurated on 31 August 1922 by Crown Prince Gustaf Adolf, and was then owned by Gothenburg Frihamns AB. In 1943, all shares were taken over by the city of Gothenburg.
The illustration was first published in the book "Svensk Frihamn" published in 1894, written by Johan August Hertz. The book contained a complete proposal for the design of Frihamnen in Gothenburg. The image that the poster depicts is one of four suggestions.
