The story behind the motif
An old picture of Södermannagatan 6 on Södermalm, north from Folkungagatan towards Katarina church. The year is 1906 and in the picture we see men, women and children who are out and about in the town in clothes typical of the time.
Today this quarter is called Droskhästen, but in the past it was called Hästen. In the building on the left in the picture we see Cafe Sexan. Södermalm grew rapidly during industrialization at the end of the 19th century and became the residential area of the working class.
