The story behind the motif
Golf in Björkliden at the national border in the 1910s. The caddy wears a beautiful, traditional Sami folk costume.
The caddy's name was Johan Sarri and he worked extra as a caddy for tourists who many times came to Björkliden with the so-called Dollar trains from Narvik. The guests came to Narvik by cruise ship.
The exact origins of the sport of golf are uncertain, but the broadest and most accepted theory is that the sport originated in Scotland during the High Middle Ages. Sweden's first golf club, Gothenburg Golf Club, was founded in the 1890s, but it was not until the 1920s that golf's popularity really took off.
