The story behind the motif
Poster featuring Myriad of Aquatic Birds by the Japanese painter Mori Tetsuzan. Executed in ink and color on silk, the work brings together a great number of waterfowl in a richly detailed, natural-history motif.
Tetsuzan was a pupil of Maruyama Ōkyo, whose school emphasized close observation of nature, and he became especially admired for his animal subjects.
