The story behind the motif
Poster with the painting Pikene on the Bridge , or The Girls on the Bridge , by the iconic Norwegian artist Edvard Munch. The work was painted in 1901 and depicts some girls on a bridge in Munch's summer town, the small town of Åsgårdstrand in Norway.
Edvard Munch is Norway's foremost artist and became a source of inspiration for German Expressionism. Munch's works are inspired by existential themes such as melancholy, jealousy and anxiety, but also the Norwegian nature and places where he lived.
