When the Wolf Became a Mount
The title is taken almost verbatim from Asbjørnsen and Moe’s folktale from 1852. There, the wolf has not eaten for two years; once it gets the horse, it becomes so strong that the hero puts a saddle and bridle on it – and continues his journey on his newly acquired wolf mount. Kittelsen painted the episode in 1900.

The story behind the motif

Canvas with the painting I am so hungry that my guts are howling, said the wolf by Theodor Kittelsen from 1900. The motif shows the boy Askeladden who meets a wolf in a dark forest late at night. The picture is an illustration to the Norwegian fairy tale Risen som ikke hadde noe hjerte på seg .

Theodor Kittelsen is a Norwegian artist who, like the Swedish John Bauer, is known for his fairytale motifs with goblins and princesses. His works are still iconic in many Nordic homes, but even though he is celebrated as a national artist in Norway, he is hardly known outside of Scandinavia.

If you order from Norway, your order will be delivered with Fedex; to Sweden and the rest of the world with DHL. Your package is normally delivered to your nearest pickup point!
