The Eye Left the Paper
Around 1905, Rodin often drew without looking down at the paper, so that he could keep his gaze fixed on the model. The method allowed quick, unexpected shifts in the line. The National Gallery of Art dates this sheet to around 1905; it is also signed by Rodin at lower left.

The story behind the motif

Poster with a vintage nude sketch by the famous sculptor Auguste Rodin (1840-1917). The motif is called Two Figures (1905) and shows two people hugging each other. The original is at the National Gallery of Art.

Auguste Rodin was a French sculptor, draftsman and photographer . He is widely regarded as the father of modern sculpture.
