Eight months of silence
Filming was halted for eight months when Chaplin’s divorce from Lita Grey reached the courts and lawyers for the opposing side tried to seize the studio’s assets. He had material already filmed hidden away. Despite the disaster, the film was honoured at the very first Academy Awards, for Chaplin’s work as actor, screenwriter, director and producer.

Chaplin, one of the most influential individuals in cinematic history, transitioned from a variety performer to a film industry luminary during a U.S. tour.

"Circus" marked Chaplin's inaugural Oscar victory, awarded at the very first Academy Awards in 1929. This film is infused with poignant allure and showcases Chaplin's own breathtaking stunts, performed at great personal risk, adding to the film's legendary status and showcasing the sheer brilliance of its creator.
