The alphabet without verses
The first edition from 1892 was a completely wordless picture book. The rhymed stanzas that many later came to associate with the book were added only in subsequent editions—yet it was awarded a prize at the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago as early as the following year.

The story behind the motif

Poster with the letters from the Princes flower alphabet by Ottilia Adelborg from 1892. Ottilia Adelborg was a famous Swedish artist and writer who has become known as the creator of the Swedish children's book.

The poster The flower alphabet of the princes (1892) also became a Christmas calendar and book with a rhyme for each letter. In 1894, she also published the poster Blomstersiffror med rime, which was just as loved.
